Robert Messey, MD, JD

Physician & Attorney

A licensed physician and attorney, Robert Messey has invaluable experience in both law and medicine. As a surgeon, Bob performed general surgical procedures with a special interest in trauma, plastic and reconstructive surgery for over a decade. Graduating first in his class at Quinnipiac University School of Law, he now represents patients harmed by medical malpractice and all types of personal injury.

Bob has extensive expertise evaluating and preparing all types of medical malpractice actions. His expertise is also critical to our other personal injury matters, because he understands the life-long impact of serious injuries and medical conditions.  He applies his unique knowledge of law and medicine representing clients in workers compensation cases as well.

Bob is highly regarded and frequently called upon by attorneys throughout the State for his ability to carefully analyze complicated medical-legal situations and explain how patient harm has occurred. He is an Adjunct Professor at Quinnipiac School of Law where he teaches courses in Law & Medicine and he has lectured extensively to physicians, other health care providers and attorneys on medical malpractice issues and medical-legal topics.

In addition, Bob is active in his community, serving on the Executive Board, Scholarship Committee and as Director of Community Services for the Devon-Milford Rotary. He is a member of the Board of Directors of PATH-Parents Available to Help, and he coaches youth soccer and basketball.

"I became a doctor and a lawyer because I loved murder mysteries as a child. In high school, I got a summer job working for the  medical examiner's office and decided that I want to be a medical examiner so I could solve real life murder mysteries like Quincy of years ago, or CSI of today. Most great medical examiners have degrees in both medicine and law. But in medical school, I liked the excitement of helping people and saving lives, so I trained as a surgeon. I became a member of many hospital committees where legal issues were discussed and after 13 years as a surgeon, I was drawn back to law school.  Now, as both a doctor and a lawyer, I can fulfill my childhood love of a good mystery by reading a medical record and figuring our what went wrong. I have all of the tools to get to the bottom of what happened and make the responsible person pay for what they have done."
